History 

Mill Creek Park was established in 1891 by Volney Rogers as the first park district in Ohio. In 2000 Volney Rogers was inducted posthumously into Ohio's Natural Resources Hall of Fame for his principal role in establishing Ohio's park districts.

Since converting to a metropolitan park district in 1989, Mill Creek MetroParks' mission has been to preserve open space and provide recreational opportunities of regional significance throughout Mahoning County. 

Residents and visitors from across the nation and around the world can now enjoy over 4,400 acres of public lands and facilities in seven townships and three cities. Mill Creek MetroParks offers endless ways to spend an afternoon, a day, or a lifetime exploring the secrets of nature and experiencing the rewards of healthy activities with family and friends.
