Mill Creek MetroParks offers bouldering (low climbing without ropes) within a permitted area of the park. This includes the area encompassed by Bears Den Drive, Cross Drive and New Cross Drive. Bouldering safety equipment, i.e. helmets and portable bouldering pads, are recommended but not required.
BOULDERING AREA EXPANSION
The bouldering area has been expanded to include a rock section on the northern side of Bears Den Drive, between NewCross Drive and Cross Drive. Signage is in place to designate the new area, which features a 40-foot section of quality sandstone with ample holds.
Visitors are reminded to follow all Park Rules and use designated parking areas. Available parking includes small pull-offs near the bouldering area, a small lot east of Bears Den Cabin along New Cross Drive, and a larger lot with pit toilets across from the cabin.
20.6 RAPPELLING, CLIMBING, BOULDERING
No person is permitted to climb, rope climb or rappel hillsides, ravine areas or rock faces on Park District lands, except in designated areas. Bouldering (low climbing without ropes), along with Bouldering specific safety equipment, i.e. helmets and portable bouldering pads, is permitted within the area encompassed by Bears Den Road, Cross Drive and New Cross Drive. All roped climbing, rappelling, and the placement or use of fixed or removable bolts, anchors, or hardware is strictly prohibited.
