Completion of Capital Improvement Project at Volney Rogers Field

As part of the MetroParks’ ongoing capital improvement initiative, Mill Creek MetroParks is pleased to announce the completion of improvements made at Volney Rogers Field. The primary improvement consists of resurfacing of the tennis and basketball courts. The court resurfacing project, completed by Penn-Ohio Sealing, features a new asphalt overlay, acrylic playing surface, and court lines on the existing six (6) tennis courts and one (1) basketball court. New green and blue surfacing has given the courts a more contemporary look. Also, two pickleball courts have been added to the tennis courts to address the demand for the increasingly popular sport.

Additionally, the basketball hoop backboards, rims, and hardware have been replaced, and the tennis backstop / practice wall has new wood facing. A new section of asphalt trail accessing the basketball courts has been constructed, and a preventive maintenance project that included sealing, crack-filling and asphalt patching of the lower parking lot and existing asphalt trails has been completed. Overgrown vegetation has been removed around the court areas and an improved section of the East Glacier Trail features new signage and is now accessible from the facility.

The facility is currently open for play. In total, the cost of the improvements is approximately $110,000.
