Mill Creek opens new children’s garden at Fellows
Mill Creek Metroparks cut the ribbon on a new children’s garden Friday morning.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Friday for the Anthony J. Fox Family Foundation Children’s Garden at Fellows Riverside Gardens.
The space is designed to give kids a place to explore nature and horticulture. It includes five areas: the Stream Garden, Forest Garden, Wonder Rooms Garden, Sensory Garden and Harvest Garden, each offering unique opportunities for exploration and learning.
The space also includes an Arrival Plaza and Lawn and a Hummocks Area, providing additional spaces for gathering, play and exploration.
The project was included in Mill Creek MetroParks` 2025 Capital Improvement Program and was fully funded through $3 million in philanthropic donations, including from the Anthony J. Fox Family Foundation, which donated a house worth $2 million.
“Over two years ago, we crafted the idea of an improved play and educational experience for children here at Fellows Riverside Gardens, and thanks to many hands throughout the design process and construction, we were pleased to cut the ribbon on the Children’s Garden,” said Aaron Young, Mill Creek MetroParks executive director.
The new children’s garden will be open from sunrise to sunset at Fellows Riverside Gardens. You can find it on McKinley Avenue off Mahoning Avenue in Youngstown.
