The Mill Creek MetroParks DEK Hockey Rink at Wick Recreation Area was created to provide the community with an additional recreational option and to offer more opportunities for physical activity for both youth and adults. The rink was made possible through the efforts of the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation, along with contributions from local community members.

DEK Hockey is a variation of ice hockey, played without ice, using a ball instead of a puck. This fast-paced sport is typically played on a hard surface, such as a concrete or asphalt rink, with participants either playing on foot or using inline skates. It shares many similarities with traditional ice hockey, including the use of sticks, goalies, and team strategies, but it is often easier to learn and more accessible due to the lack of ice and the use of a ball.

The game is played in teams, usually of 4 to 6 players, with the objective to score goals by shooting the ball into the opposing team’s net. DEK Hockey is known for being a fun, high-energy activity that helps improve coordination, speed, and teamwork. It can be played recreationally or in a more competitive setting.

The DEK Rink at Wick Recreation Area is a “FREE PLAY” facility, available on a first-come, first-served basis by the hour, unless reserved. Whether you’re looking for a casual game with friends or hoping to get some exercise, the DEK Rink provides a great space for beginners and experienced players alike.
