The next Regular Meeting of the Board of Park Commissioners, of Mill Creek MetroParks is scheduled for Monday, June 14, 2021, at 6 p.m., in the Education Building – McMahon Hall, at the MetroParks Farm, on Rt. 46, in Canfield. Guidelines and capacity limits recommended by the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) will apply. Notice of May Board Meeting

The next Regular Meeting of the Board of Park Commissioners, of Mill Creek MetroParks is scheduled for Monday, May 10, 2021, at 6 p.m., in the Education Building – McMahon Hall, at the MetroParks Farm, on Rt. 46, in Canfield. Guidelines and capacity limits recommended by the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) will apply. Mill Creek MetroParks to begin Phased Re-Opening

Mill Creek MetroParks, in accordance with the orders from the Governor’s Office, the Ohio Department of Public Health, the Mahoning County District Board of Health, and the Center for Disease Control regarding the COVID-19 virus, will begin a phased re-opening of programs, events, and facility rentals. All outdoor based recreation facilities, education programs, recreation leagues, and/or events will be opened to the public beginning Tuesday, April 13, 2021. All open-air shelters will be open for reservations on their normal seasonal schedule beginning Saturday, May 1, 2021, as well as visitation to the MetroParks Farm Animal Barns. All indoor related rental facilities, as well as all indoor based education & recreation programs and events, will begin to open to the public on Friday, May 7, 2021. All visitors will be required to follow the current orders and recommended guidelines with regards to mask wearing, social distancing and capacity limitations.

The following Mill Creek MetroParks locations will be open to the public effective May 7, 2021:

  • MetroParks Farm Education Building
  • D.D. & Velma Davis Education and Visitors Center
  • All Reservable Indoor Cabins & Shelters
  • Yellow Creek Lodge
  • Administration Office
  • Lanterman’s Mill

Various Mill Creek MetroParks outdoor locations are currently open and available for use including Mill Creek Park, Fellows Riverside Gardens, Sebring Woods, The MetroParks Bikeway, Mill Creek Golf Course, Wick Par-3, MetroParks Farm Disc Golf Course, and All Nature Preserves and Sanctuaries.

The MetroParks urges all visitors to continue following all guidelines from state and local health officials, such as staying home if sick or exhibiting symptoms, maintaining at least six feet apart from other visitors, avoiding congregating in groups of more than 10 individuals, practicing good hygiene by washing hands often and carrying hand sanitizer, as well as avoiding items such as handrails, park benches, and other areas frequently touched to continue in helping to stop the spread of COVID-19.

The next Regular Meeting of the Board of Park Commissioners, of Mill Creek MetroParks is scheduled for Monday, April 12, 2021, at 6 p.m. While in-person attendance is not permitted due to COVID-19, the meeting can be viewed via Facebook Live on the Mill Creek MetroParks Facebook page. The agenda will be available on the website after 2 p.m. on the day of the meeting.

Mill Creek MetroParks to Open Roads Closed During Winter Season

Effective Friday, April 2, 2021 the following roads in Mill Creek Park will re-open to vehicular traffic:

 

  • High Drive, between Chestnut Hill Drive and West Cohasset Drive
  • Chestnut Hill Drive, between Canfield Road and High Drive
  • Calvary Run Drive, between Belle Vista Avenue and Milton Avenue

 

 

Always use caution when driving on MetroParks roads as many of these roads are also used by pedestrians and bicyclists. Pedestrians and bicyclists should be reminded to also use caution and be aware of vehicular traffic when on these roads. Mill Creek Golf Course to Open for the 2021 Golf Season

The North Course at Mill Creek Golf Course will open for the 2021 season at Noon on Monday, March 22, 2021. Hole #55 Bar & Grille will follow shortly after with an opening date of Thursday, April 1, 2021. The tentative opening date for the South Course, Practice Range & Learning Center is scheduled for Monday, April 5, 2021, weather permitting.

 

The James L. Wick, Jr. Recreation Area Par-3 Golf Course and batting cages are scheduled to open on Thursday, April 1, 2021. In addition, the tennis courts and sand volleyball courts also located at Wick Recreation Area will open on Monday, April 1, 2021. Wick Recreation Area hours are 8:00 a.m. – Sunset, with lighted night hours of 8:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. beginning Memorial Day weekend.

Temporary Adjustment for Daffodil Meadow Visitation

Mill Creek MetroParks understands the impact the East Newport Drive closure has brought to the public and with that accommodations have been made in providing a temporary change in traffic patterns to permit vehicles, pedestrians, and bicyclists the opportunity to experience Daffodil Meadow this spring. All park users will be permitted to travel to Daffodil Meadow and slightly beyond, at which point they will be instructed to turn around.

 

By order of MetroParks Police, it is imperative for park visitors to continue to abide by the directional and regulatory signage, as well as the barricades which prevent access to the roadway slide/future project site to ensure visitor safety during the closure and duration of the project.

YSU Army ROTC Training to take place at McGuffey Wildlife Preserve

The YSU Army ROTC will be performing training exercises on Thursdays from January 21 – April 22, 2021 at the McGuffey Wildlife Preserve in Coitsville Township. On each Thursday, training will begin at approximately 2:30 p.m. and conclude at approximately 4:00 p.m. Members will be in uniform and government vans will be on site.

In the event of inclement weather, the training could be delayed and adjusted accordingly.
