COVID-19 Updates

Mill Creek MetroParks Cancellations, Closures, and Openings

(April 12, 2021)

Mill Creek MetroParks, in accordance with the orders from the Governor’s Office, the Ohio Department of Public Health, the Mahoning County District Board of Health, and the Center for Disease Control regarding the COVID-19 virus, will begin a phased re-opening of programs, events, and facility rentals. All outdoor based recreation facilities, education programs, recreation leagues, and/or events will be opened to the public beginning Tuesday, April 13, 2021. All open-air shelters will be open for reservations on their normal seasonal schedule beginning Saturday, May 1, 2021, as well as visitation to the MetroParks Farm Animal Barns. All indoor related rental facilities, as well as all indoor based education & recreation programs and events, will begin to open to the public on Friday, May 7, 2021. All visitors will be required to follow the current orders and recommended guidelines with regards to mask wearing, social distancing and capacity limitations.

The MetroParks urges all visitors to continue following all guidelines from state and local health officials, such as staying home if sick or exhibiting symptoms, maintaining at least six feet apart from other visitors, avoiding congregating in groups of more than 10 individuals, practicing good hygiene by washing hands often and carrying hand sanitizer, as well as avoiding items such as handrails, park benches, and other areas frequently touched to continue in helping to stop the spread of COVID-19.

In support of the recommendations from the Governor’s Office, the Ohio Department of Public Health and the Center for Disease Control regarding the potential spread of the COVID-19 virus and to protect the health, safety and welfare of our employees, volunteers and visitors, Mill Creek MetroParks is extending the cancellations of all previously scheduled programs, tours, events, lectures and indoor facility rentals until the April  2021 board meeting scheduled for April 12, 2021. In the event a registration fee or rental fee was paid, a full refund will be processed.

In support of the Governor’s office, Mill Creek MetroParks will be opening the baseball/ softball fields at Wick Recreation Area and Scholl Recreation Area along with all tennis courts which are located at Wick Recreation Area, Volney Rogers Field, Scholl Recreation Area, and Yellow Creek Park beginning May 26, 2020. The mandatory and recommended best practices put forth by the Governor and the Ohio Department of Health must be followed while using Mill Creek MetroParks ball fields and tennis courts. At the time of this press release, playgrounds, basketball courts, and volleyball courts will remain closed per orders by the Governor’s office.

(May 5, 2020)

Amid concerns surrounding COVID-19 and large group gatherings, Mill Creek MetroParks is cancelling all performances for Live at the Morley! (previously scheduled for June 10, July 8, and August 12, 2020) along with their all new Movie in the Park event (previously scheduled for June 24, July 22, August 26), both of which were to be held at Wick Recreation Area this summer. The Yellow Creek Concert Series (previously scheduled for June 11, July 9, and August 13, 2020) scheduled to be held at Yellow Creek Park in Struthers is also being cancelled.

The decision was made to cancel these large crowd events to protect the health and safety of all visitors as well staff members and vendors. The MetroParks has plans to bring these community events back in the Summer of 2021.

The North & South Courses at Mill Creek Golf Course located at 1 West Golf Drive, Boardman, will reopen to the public at 8:00 am on Saturday, May 2, 2020 with adjusted operating hours Monday – Friday, 9:00 am to 7:00 pm; Saturday & Sunday, 8:00 am to 7:00 pm. The Wick Par-3 Course will open for the season on Monday, May 11, 2020 with the adjusted hours of Monday – Sunday, 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. All golf facilities will operate under the latest guidelines for golf courses through the Mahoning County District Board of Health and Governor DeWine’s office. These guidelines are to be followed under the mandated social distancing guidelines to ensure a safe environment for both staff and patrons. These guidelines can be found on our website at www.millcreekmetroparks.org and are as follows:

Tee time booking online or by phone starting on May 2, 2020

  • Credit card & cash payments in the golf shop are available, however credit cards are preferred.
  • Maximum number of people allowed in the Golf Shop is 10 people using social distancing of 6 feet
    • Recommending all customers wear masks when entering the Fieldhouse for payment
    • Floors will be marked for spacing and traffic patterns with only two sets of doors to be open
    • Fieldhouse restrooms are open
    • Plexi-Glass added to the counter areas for safety – (Golf Shop & Hole #55)
  • Walking is encouraged
  • Riding (encouraging riders to ride 1 person per cart)
  • Operating hours on Monday – Friday, 9:00 am to 7:00 pm; Saturday & Sunday, 8:00 am to 7:00 pm
  • Last golf cart sold at 6:00 pm to ensure proper cleaning after each round

Procedures for daily play

  • Mill Creek staff to manage tee time check-in from the Golf Shop
  • Scorecards and pencils will be available on #1 & #10 tee boxes – Golfers are required to keep their pencils as we are looking for them not to be re-used by others.
  • Flagsticks to be left in for play (please do not touch or remove from hole)
  • Putt stoppers will be placed in hole cup to prohibit reaching into the cup to retrieve golf ball
  • Ball washers and sand trap rakes are removed from the course for safety
    • Please use your feet to rake the sand traps
  • Mandatory for safety – please remove all trash from golf carts upon completion of your round

Social distancing policy

  • Each member of the group to stand 6 feet apart when teeing off
  • Cart paths on holes number #1 & #10 will be marked to keep carts properly spaced
    • 6 feet apart while waiting to tee off
  • Please – NO shaking hands after player rounds
  • No gathering in groups before or after round of golf
    • The Fieldhouse porch will be closed to prevent gatherings
  • If you are sick, we ask that you please stay at home to prevent the spread of germs to other customers and golf operations staff
  • Hole #55 will be open for to-go orders only

In support of the recommendations from the Governor’s Office, the Ohio Department of Public Health and the Center for Disease Control regarding the potential spread of the COVID-19 virus and to protect the health, safety and welfare of our employees, volunteers and visitors, Mill Creek MetroParks is cancelling all previously scheduled programs, events, lectures and facility rentals through at least April 5, 2020. Mill Creek MetroParks is also closing several indoor public facilities through at least April 5, 2020.  In the event a registration fee or rental fee was paid, a full refund will be processed.

Beginning March 13, the following Mill Creek MetroParks indoor locations will be closed to the public:

  • MetroParks Farm Education Building and Animal Barns (McMahon Hall will be open to the public on March 17, 2020 for voting)
