PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE OF MILL CREEK METROPARKS
In 2011, Mill Creek MetroParks began an ambitious effort to create a long-term strategic vision. The goal: to ensure the park system remains vibrant, accessible, and responsive to the needs of the community. The process began with focus group meetings in December 2011, gathering input from key stakeholders to help shape the direction of the plan.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AT EVERY STEP
During the first half of 2012, the MetroParks expanded public outreach through open houses, a mail survey, and interviews with community leaders. These conversations ensured that community voices were heard and reflected in the final outcome. In addition, a detailed needs assessment and demographic analysis provided data-driven insight into current trends and future opportunities.
THE 2013 STRATEGIC PLAN
All of the feedback and research was compiled into the 2013 Strategic Plan — a comprehensive document designed to guide Mill Creek MetroParks over the next ten years. Officially approved by the Board of Park Commissioners in January, the plan is now available to the public. It reflects the shared vision of the community and lays the foundation for thoughtful stewardship and meaningful growth.
STRATEGIC ACTION PLAN SUMMARY
To support implementation, the MetroParks developed a companion document: the Strategic Action Plan Summary. This user-friendly summary highlights six key focus areas that will guide staff decision-making and resource allocation. These priorities help ensure that efforts remain targeted, transparent, and aligned with the needs of the community.
LOOKING AHEAD
The Strategic Plan is a living document that will evolve over time. Progress will be reviewed regularly to adapt to new challenges, build on successes, and remain in step with community values. With your continued support, Mill Creek MetroParks is committed to a future of growth, connection, and conservation.
